Planning

Residents that are planning to build a garage, large shed or an addition to their home will need a “Letter of Compliance” from the Board of Commissioners before applying for a building permit. This can be obtained by bringing a copy of the plans to a City meeting. Copies of the deed restrictions are available, but it would be best to check for any additional restrictions at the Dept. of Planning & Zoning. Please call ahead of time to be put on the meeting agenda.

Police, Fire & Traffic

Jefferson County ordinances apply to residents of our City, and include such things as a prohibition on burning trash or leaves, a restriction on parking in the fire lane, and a requirement that pets always be restrained while outdoors. Cambridge also prohibits parking on the lawn of your home.

Taxes

The City of Cambridge receives additional income from the insurance premium tax. This is a tax you already pay for insurance on your home, car, etc. This ordinance allows the money from this tax to be paid to our City instead of going to the City of Louisville. This money helps the City of Cambridge keep tax rates low. For the City to collect this money, each resident would need to contact their insurance providers and tell those companies that the insurance premium tax should be sent to the City of Cambridge.
